Skaramuča winery

In the heart of the enchanting Pelješac Peninsula, on the famous slopes of Dingač, lies the renowned Skaramuča winery. This family-owned estate is synonymous with traditional craftsmanship, authentic Croatian wines, and a rich winemaking heritage that spans generations. For lovers of powerful, full-bodied wines, Skaramuča is an icon of the region, where the indigenous grape varieties Plavac Mali and Pošip reach their full potential.

History

The story of Skaramuča begins with the Skaramuča family, which has been connected to viticulture on Pelješac for generations. Since 1992, when private wine producers in Croatia were allowed to independently produce and market their wines, the estate has developed its own distinct identity. The founder, Ivo Skaramuča, is regarded as a pioneer of the modern Croatian wine industry. Today, the winery is run by the new generation, including Igor Skaramuča and Ivana Anđelić, who combine this rich tradition with modern winemaking techniques.

Vineyards

The Skaramuča vineyards are located on the southern slopes of Dingač, one of the most prestigious wine regions in Croatia. With approximately 20 hectares of carefully maintained vineyards, the winery benefits from a unique terroir: steep, rocky slopes with optimal sun exposure, a mild Mediterranean climate, and a gentle sea breeze. These conditions ensure exceptional grape ripening and give the wines their distinctive intensity and complexity.

Manual cultivation is essential at Skaramuča. Due to the steep slopes, mechanization is impossible, meaning each grape is tended with great care — from pruning to harvest. This artisanal approach guarantees wines of outstanding quality.

Wines of Skaramuča

Skaramuča is renowned for its premium Dingač wines made from the indigenous Plavac Mali grape, as well as elegant white wines produced from the Pošip grape. Each bottle reflects the unique terroir of Pelješac and the passion of the winemakers.

Key wines:

  • Skaramuča Dingač – a powerful red wine with deep aromas of dark fruit and spices, the winery’s flagship wine.
  • Skaramuča Plavac Premium – a slightly softer, more approachable expression of Plavac Mali with a complex flavor profile.
  • Skaramuča Pošip – a fresh, aromatic white wine, ideal with fish dishes or light meals.
  • Special blends and cuvées – modern combinations of local grape varieties that perfectly unite innovation and tradition.

Winery and Production

Skaramuča operates a modern wine cellar equipped with both stainless steel tanks and oak barrels. With a capacity of 600,000 liters, the winery produces high-quality wines ranging from small-batch Dingač to larger volumes of Plavac Mali and Pošip. Annual production amounts to tens of thousands of bottles of premium wine, distributed both on the Croatian market and exported to more than 25 countries worldwide.
