Feravino Winery

Feravino is one of the most prominent and historic wineries in Croatia, located in the charming village of Feričanci in the Slavonia region. This winery combines centuries-old traditions with modern viticulture techniques and is renowned for its refined wines, both white and red, which reflect the unique terroir of eastern Croatia. Feravino is not only a producer of high-quality wines but also a destination for enthusiasts of wine culture and history.

A Rich History of Wine Culture

The tradition of winemaking in the Slavonia region dates back to the Middle Ages, when monks such as the Cistercians and the Templars planted the first vineyards. Feravino’s own history begins in 1804 with the construction of its historic wine cellar, which still plays a central role today in the production of red wines and tastings.

During the Yugoslav era, Feravino operated as a cooperative, with local winegrowers supplying their grapes for collective production. In 1996–1997, the winery was acquired by a private family, who launched an ambitious program of modernization and expansion. The old cellar was preserved, while a modern winery was built with a capacity of approximately 2 million liters. Since then, Feravino has built an excellent reputation as a producer of premium wines, working with both local and international grape varieties.

Vineyards and Terroir

Feravino has a total of 160 hectares of vineyards, divided across three different locations. The largest of these is Feričanci, with 103.9 hectares, directly connected to the company’s historic cellar. Additionally, there is Zoljan, a smaller vineyard of 9.3 hectares located about 12 kilometers away, known for its unique microclimates. Finally, Ceremošnjak, with 43.7 hectares, lies 24 kilometers away and stands out for its rich soil composition. Together, these vineyards form the foundation for the diversity and quality of Feravino’s wines.

The vineyards are situated on the gentle slopes of the Krndija mountain, where the combination of fertile soil, sunny days, and cool nights provides ideal conditions for the growth of both white and red grapes. Modern pruning techniques, such as the double Guyot system, ensure optimal yield and grape quality.

Grape Varieties

Feravino combines native Slavonian grapes with international varieties:

  • Graševina
  • Frankovka (Blaufränkisch)
  • Zweigelt
  • International varieties such as Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Cabernet Franc, creating a diverse and modern portfolio.

Production and Winemaking

Feravino combines traditional techniques with modern winemaking by aging carefully selected red wines in oak barrels, adding complexity and depth. White wines undergo controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and fruit aromas.

Furthermore, Feravino practices sustainable viticulture, focusing on careful pruning, responsible soil management, and optimal grape selection. The result is a consistently high-quality level, earning Feravino recognition both nationally and internationally.
