History and Background

Located in the picturesque parish of Pedrogão, in the municipality of Vidigueira, Herdade do Monte da Ribeira spans an impressive 1,100 hectares of the fertile Alentejo landscape. The estate includes extensive vineyards, Mediterranean forests with cork oaks, holm oaks, and olive trees, as well as water features that support vineyard irrigation. The winery was founded by the Carmona e Costa family and operates under the Fundação Victor e Graça Carmona e Costa, which also supports contemporary art and culture in Portugal.

The vineyards of Casa Agrícola HMR cover approximately 43 hectares and benefit from the unique Alentejo terroir: warm days, cool nights, and well-drained soils. This climate is ideal for both red and white grape varieties, including Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Touriga Nacional for reds, and Alvarinho, Antão Vaz, and Arinto for whites.
Through innovative irrigation techniques and sustainable water management, the natural quality of the grapes is ensured, resulting in wines rich in aroma, structure, and finesse.

Casa Agrícola HMR produces wines of exceptional quality, with an annual output of approximately 400,000 bottles. This is reflected in its premium wine lines, including Marmelar, Pousio, and Quatro Caminhos.
