Carić Winery
Vina Carić is one of Croatia’s most renowned wineries, located on the sun-drenched island of Hvar. This family-owned estate combines centuries-old winemaking traditions with modern vinification techniques, resulting in a unique collection of wines that reflect the island’s character and terroir.
The winery is truly a family business, run by the current generation of the Carić family. They have a deep connection to Hvar and its local wine traditions, which is evident in their approach to vineyard management and winemaking. The owner, often referred to as Marko Carić, is known for his passion for indigenous Croatian grape varieties and his commitment to preserving the unique flavors of Hvar and promoting them worldwide. The family places great emphasis on craftsmanship, sustainability, and knowledge-sharing, combining traditional methods with modern winemaking techniques. This results in wines that are both authentic and refined. Through their personal involvement in every aspect of production—from grape harvest to bottling—the identity of the winery remains closely tied to the family’s values.
History and Tradition
Carić has roots deeply embedded in Croatia’s wine culture. For generations, the family has cultivated grapes on the famous terraces of Hvar, where the combination of Mediterranean sunshine, limestone-rich soils, and cooling sea breezes creates optimal conditions for high-quality wines. Today, Vina Carić operates under the company Vino Hvar d.o.o., which remains faithful to the philosophy of craftsmanship, sustainability, and respect for the terroir.

Vineyards and Grape Varieties
Vina Carić manages around five hectares of its own vineyards, spread across various microclimates on Hvar. This diversity enables the winery to produce a wide range of wines, from powerful reds to fresh, aromatic whites.
Indigenous Grapes
Vina Carić focuses on authentic Croatian grape varieties such as Plavac Mali, the king of Croatian red wines, known for its rich aroma and structure; Bogdanuša, a delicate white grape with fresh and floral notes; Pošip, an aromatic white grape with hints of citrus and ripe tropical fruit; and Maraština and Darnekuša, typical local varieties that reflect the character of Hvar. In addition, international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah are sometimes used in blends, making the wines accessible to a global audience.
