Various tastes
The way of making wine in amphoras is still done in the traditional way. Even if only then the wine actually matures in the earthenware jars. Both red and white grape varieties can be used for this wine. Characteristic of Caucasus wine are the white grape varieties that supply orange wine. Because of the storage and way of making in combination with the pottery, these wines have a deep, own taste. The taste is hardly comparable to wine made in other ways.

About that orange wine. That is a unique wine that is made in the Caucasus. The special orange wines such as the Rkatsiteli are unique in their kind and can also be made and stored in jars or amphorae. The base is a white grape that turns orange after pressing during the fermentation process. The taste of an orange wine is not entirely comparable to the standard white wines that we drink in the Netherlands. The wine has a very rich palette of flavors, with recognizable nut and fruit tones. Orange wines are firmer and often more bitter due to the tannins in the wine.
