Wine Areni grape
Wine from the blue Areni grape is characteristic for Armenia. The Areni (also called Areni Noir) has been used in the Caucasus for thousands of years. It is not without reason that wine from the Areni grape has become one of the most characteristic wines in the country. Wines with the Areni are characterized by the firm, full flavor that is not inferior to robust European or American grape varieties. Especially if you are a real wine lover and are looking for a unique grape variety, wine from Areni grapes is recommended. On this page we would like to tell you more about its properties.

Buy Areni grape Wine
Like other grape varieties, wine from the Areni grape is available in different varieties. From semi-dry to dry and even sweet red wines: the Areni grape lends itself well to a diverse bouquet of taste and undertone. Rosé wines from the Areni are also pressed. Nevertheless, wines from the Areni grape have not been produced for very long. The grape was initially used in the well-known Armenian brandies.
Special name
The name Areni is not just given to the grape. This has everything to do with the region where the Areni Noir grows: a mountainous region with caverns, caves and old monasteries. Long ago, a winery and wine jugs from the past were found at one of the caves near the village of Areni. Remains of the Areni grape were found in these caves, after which the wines from this area also received the same name. The caves can still be visited during wine tours in the area!
Properties grape
The Areni as a grape has developed over the centuries of viticulture into a hard, winter-resistant grape variety. The vineyards where the Areni is grown are therefore located in the high mountains of the Caucasus. At a few thousand meters and in the mountain valleys, the ideal soil is found to grow these grapes, often on a base of volcanic rock that provides minerals to wine and grape. It makes sense that the Areni is also called the Pinot Noir of the Caucasus. Both grape varieties therefore have some similarities in terms of background.
