Koncho Kvareli 2019

Meet Koncho Kvareli, an exceptional dry red wine originating from the renowned Kvareli region in Georgia. This area is famous for its rich winemaking traditions and unique terroir, situated in the Kakheti region, surrounded by the majestic wooded hills of the Caucasus and the fertile Alazani Valley. This refined wine is made from 100% Saperavi grapes, one of Georgia’s most esteemed grape varieties. The careful selection process begins with hand-picking in late September, when only the healthiest clusters are chosen at the peak of the grapes’ physiological ripeness. After harvesting, the intriguing winemaking process begins. The carefully selected grapes undergo a classic fermentation for three weeks, fermenting on the skins. This step enhances the complexity and richness of the flavor. Once fermentation is complete, the wine remains on the lees for some time, allowing further development and refinement of the flavors. This is followed by malolactic fermentation, which brings balance to the wine. The wine then ages in oak barrels for twelve months, a crucial phase that adds depth and complexity to Koncho Kvareli. This careful aging process is what gives the wine its distinctive character.

With an alcohol content of 13.5%, Koncho Kvareli offers a powerful yet balanced taste experience that will delight wine enthusiasts worldwide. Don’t wait any longer; order your bottle and discover the magic of this exquisite Georgian wine for yourself.

Taste Character Koncho Kvareli

Koncho Kvareli is a full-bodied wine with a deep ruby red color. Its aroma is rich and complex, with dominant notes of blueberries, dried black plums, and pronounced hints of blackcurrant. These fruity aromas are further complemented by subtle hints of vanilla and clove, which develop during aging in oak barrels. On the palate, the wine is pleasantly full, with ripe phenols contributing to a soft texture. Its high aging potential means the wine continues to develop in the bottle, improving with each passing year. The finish is long and full.

Koncho Kvareli is a versatile wine that pairs perfectly with a wide range of dishes. It’s an ideal match for a delicious piece of roasted red meat, such as lamb or beef. The rich flavors of the meat meld with the wine’s complex notes, creating an unforgettable taste experience. Additionally, Koncho Kvareli pairs wonderfully with aged cheeses, like Gruyère or mature cheeses. The wine’s full flavors beautifully complement the rich, salty notes of the cheese, resulting in a harmonious balance. It also shines alongside spicy dishes, such as grilled kebabs or stews. The wine complements the spices and aromas of the food, creating an exciting and flavorful combination. With its rich profile, Koncho Kvareli is the perfect companion for any culinary adventure. For the best experience, it is recommended to serve the wine at a temperature between 15-17 °C. This temperature allows the aromas and flavors to be fully appreciated, enhancing the overall drinking experience.

Description

Winery

Koncho and Company LLC is a renowned winery rooted in a rich and centuries-old tradition. Founded on September 18, 2001, by JSC Corporation Kindzmarauli, the company’s heritage is deeply intertwined with Georgia’s winemaking history. The name “Koncho” derives from an ancient Georgian word meaning “cross,” honoring the Konchoshvili family, who have been engaged in winemaking since 1737. The legend traces back to Kakhaber Konchoshvili, who served as a royal winemaker for King Teimuraz II of Kakheti. He established a wine cellar specializing in traditional Kakhetian wines and chacha, a type of Georgian brandy. This cellar remained active until the late 20th century, first located in the village of Sabue, and later in Kvareli.

With the founding of Koncho and Company LLC, this rich tradition is carried forward. The winery emphasizes preserving authentic Georgian winemaking techniques and boasts premium vineyards in the traditional micro-regions of Kindzmarauli and Kvareli. These vineyards were carefully selected for their fertile soils, formed over time by the Duruji River. The unique soil composition, consisting of black slate with a high concentration of carbonates at a depth of 8 to 10 meters, imparts the wines of Koncho and Company with their distinctive flavor and character. As a result, the winery’s wines are beloved not only locally but also globally by connoisseurs of fine Georgian wines.
