Koncho Rkatsiteli Qvevri 2020
Koncho & Co Rkatsiteli Qvevri is an intense orange wine from the Kakheti region in Georgia. This wine is made from 100% Rkatsiteli grapes, a traditional Georgian variety known for its vibrant acidity and complex aromas. Kakheti, the region considered the heart of Georgian winemaking, has mineral-rich, clay soils that contribute to the wine’s unique flavor. The grapes are carefully hand-harvested, first in the second half of the summer (late July/August) and again later in October/November for the final harvest. After picking, the wine is fermented using the ancient Qvevri method: the grapes undergo a five-month fermentation and maceration in a traditional clay amphora (Qvevri), followed by a year of aging in oak barrels. This traditional process ensures deep flavor development and an oxidative character, which is characteristic of this style of wine. The Koncho & Co Rkatsiteli Qvevri has an alcohol content of 13% and is best served slightly chilled. Thanks to its robust tannin structure and oxidative character, this wine has aging potential, allowing its complexity to further evolve over time.

This Georgian orange wine has a striking golden-yellow hue with an orange-amber color that immediately draws attention. The aroma is rich and intense, with a blend of apple, pear, apricot, candied lemon, quince, dried flowers, roasted hazelnuts, bergamot, cacao, and a hint of dried fruit. The taste is full and balanced, with a long and complex finish that emphasizes the depth of the wine. This allows the fruity aromas to fully emerge and highlights the subtle complexity of the aging process in the qvevri.

Description
With a deep-rooted history in Georgian winemaking tradition, Koncho and Company LLC was founded on September 18, 2001, by JSC Corporation Kindzmarauli. The company is dedicated to producing wines of exceptional quality and preserving the rich heritage of Georgia’s wine culture. The name “Koncho,” derived from the Old Georgian word for “cross,” is also linked to the surname Konchoshvili, a family with a long winemaking tradition dating back to 1737. In that year, Kakhaber Konchoshvili, the royal winemaker of King Teimuraz II of Kakheti, established a winery where traditional Kakhetian wines and chacha, a Georgian brandy, were produced. The family remained active in winemaking until the end of the 20th century, with wineries in Sabue and later in Kvareli.
With the establishment of Koncho and Company LLC, this centuries-old tradition was revitalized. The company aims to continue the authentic Georgian winemaking practices while delivering wines of the highest quality to a global audience. Koncho and Company owns vineyards in the famous wine microzones of Kindzmarauli and Kvareli, located on fertile land once crossed by the Duruji River. The presence of black slate and a high concentration of carbonates at a depth of 8-10 meters below the surface ensures that the company’s wines have a unique and distinctive taste, earning them a prominent place in the Georgian wine world.
