KEF by KARAS White Dry Wine

Karas Kef White, embodying the meaning of its Armenian name “feast,” brings the essence of Armenian celebration to every occasion. Made from a blend of 60% Kangun and 40% Chenin Blanc grapes, grown in the volcanic soils of the Ararat Valley in the Armavir Region, this white wine captures the unique characteristics of its terroir with every sip.

The winemaking process begins with a careful manual harvest, followed by grape selection on a sorting table. The grapes are then pressed, and after a cool 24-hour decantation, the juice undergoes fermentation for 20 days at a controlled temperature of 14-16°C. With an alcohol content of 13.5%, Karas Kef White represents the perfect harmony between traditional Armenian winemaking and modern expertise.

Description

Winery

Karas is renowned as Armenia’s leading winery, strategically positioned in the Ararat Valley under the towering gaze of Mount Ararat. Owned by the Eurnekian family, Karas Wines stands at the crossroads of sustainability, family heritage, and winemaking expertise. The name “Karas,” translating to “amphora” in Armenian, pays homage to the ancient clay vessels that have been integral to winemaking here for over 6000 years.

Though Armenia has a millennia-old winemaking tradition, modern production techniques were slow to take root until Karas Wines emerged. The company’s evolution began with the recruitment of a skilled Argentine winemaker from Mendoza, who played a pivotal role in revamping their production methods. To further enhance their efforts, world-renowned wine consultant Michel Roland was brought on board to guide innovations, merging traditional practices with cutting-edge expertise. This collaboration heralded a new era for Armenian winemaking.

Founded in 2003, Karas Wines carefully selected exceptional vineyard sites near Yerevan, Armenia’s capital, at the foot of the stunning Mount Ararat. The vineyards flourish in the region’s rich black volcanic soils, at elevations ranging from 400 to 1100 meters, providing ideal conditions for cultivating premium grapes. In addition, the Ararat Valley’s climate, marked by scorching summers and cold, dry winters, also creates optimal conditions for vine growth. Karas is committed to crafting wines that pay tribute to Armenia’s ancient winemaking heritage while meeting contemporary demands. With abundant sunshine and the distinctive volcanic soil, the grapes develop a unique flavor profile, showcasing the remarkable Armenian terroir in every bottle.
