Fun Fact!
During the reign of King Gagik I of the Bagratuni dynasty in the 10th century, he decided to build a luxurious royal residence on the island of Akhtamar, located in the lake at the heart of medieval Armenia. The king’s spacious palace was surrounded by gardens and orchards. The name of the island was inspired by the legend of Princess Tamar and her love for a handsome young man, who drowned in the wild waters of Lake Van, with the words “Ah, Tamar.”
