This old town is known for its beautiful barroque city center, spas for its “bull’s blood” as quality wine. The Winemaker of St. Andrea has succeeded in achieving its goal in the rehabilitation of the concept of ‘bull’s blood’. Every year he makes impressive blends and this year his quality wine Aldás Egri Bikavér consists of at least seven grape varieties – Kékfrankos, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Pinot noir, Blauburger, Kadarka.

The wine was fermented in the stainless steel tanks and then had a short barrel aging. Before the wine left the winery, it was aged in bottle for 12 months. Thanks to this method, a beautiful modern wine has been created. In the glass the wine is a beautiful ruby ​​red, the aromas are fruity, lively with blackcurrant and subtle cocoa powder. It is a tight but soft wine with a nice aging potential.

About the Eger wine region

The wine region of Eger is located in the northeast of Hungary, at the foot of the Bükk Mountains. It is a beautiful terroir with unique possibilities for growing both red and white grapes. The region’s climate is cool, which is reflected in the character of the wines of St. Andrea. The wines have exciting acidity, rich aromas, non-dominant tannins and elegance. The soil is also rich, complex and varied with the dominant lower layer of rhyolite tuff of volcanic origin and clay, lime, shale, zeolite, marl, sandstone. The soil gives the wines a strong character.

In the wine region of Eger, in addition to the international Merlot, Pinot Noir and Syrah, the indigenous Kékfrankos, Blauburger, Turan en Menoir are grown. For white wine, the most widely planted grapes are Királyleányka, Olaszrizling, Hárslebelű and Chardonnay.
