About the maker
Zulal embraces the unique characteristics of indigenous Armenian grape varieties, thriving in conditions of high-altitude viticulture, an exceptional climate, and volcanic soil. The roots of this winemaking culture trace back to 2017 when second-generation winemaker Aimee Keushguerian founded Zulal. The name Zulal, meaning ‘pure’ in Armenian, reflects Keushguerian’s desire to celebrate the untamed flavors of lesser-known indigenous grape varieties of Armenia. Zulal’s fruits are carefully harvested from small production plots in picturesque villages such as Aghavnadzor and Rind, situated in the lush Arpa Valley of Vayots Dzor. In addition to well-known grape varieties like Areni and Voskehat, Zulal experiments with other intriguing Armenian varieties, including Koghbeni from Tavush, Nazeli and Movuz, Tozot and Karmir Kot from Vayots Dzor, Sireni from Artsakh, Jrjruk from Tavush, and Kakhet from Artashat.
With an annual production of approximately 10,000 cases of wine, Zulal remains a symbol of dedication to the rich diversity of Armenian wines and a proud representative of the craftsmanship involved in nurturing indigenous grape varieties. A true ambassador for Armenians celebrating their heritage and sharing their passion for wine with the world.
