Zorah Karasi 2021

Zorah Karasi is a beautiful Armenian red wine from the Vayots Dzor region. Karasi pays homage to Armenia’s 6100-year winemaking tradition: aged in traditional amphorae, hence the name, ‘of amphorae’ in Armenian. It is made with the Areni grape variety perhaps one of the oldest grape varieties in the world, Areni has been present in Armenia for millennia. The grape is grown on high altitude vineyards (1400 m), has never been grafted (pre-phylloxera) and is 100% native to this country. The wine is fermented with native yeast and then aged in ‘Karas’ (traditional clay amphorae) for approximately 12 months. After very light filtration, the wine matures in the bottle for about 6 months. With an alcohol content of 13.5%, this beauty is the perfect addition to your many occasions.

Description

Producer

Zorah was founded by Zorik Gharibian, an Armenian who studied in Venice and Milan before embarking on a successful fashion career based on the principles of tradition, innovation and excellence. In the 2000s, he decided to pour his heart and soul into his true love: wine. For Gharibian, the only way was to look to the land of his ancestors. He planted vineyards surrounded by dramatic snow-capped mountains 1,400 meters above sea level in the small rural village of Rind in the heart of Yeghegnadzor, Armenia’s premier grape region.

Zorah’s 40 acre ungrafted vineyard is set on rocky, calcareous soils. It is planted on carefully selected native vines sourced from the abandoned vineyards of a nearby 13th century monastery. The region enjoys long, dry summers, with remarkably vibrant sunlight and high daytime temperatures contrasting with cool nights, creating a long growing season that lasts until the end of October.
