Description
Winery
Vaziani Winery was founded in 1982 and, at that time, stood as one of the most modern wineries in the Telavi region of Kakheti. After 1991, when Georgia regained its independence, the Georgian wine industry embarked on a path filled with challenges. This journey was characterized by preserving the traditional qvevri wine-making method, which has been in practice for over 8,600 years, alongside the introduction of modern European techniques that had been naturalized in Georgia since 1812. In 2012, Vaziani Winery modernized its European production line by installing advanced Italian equipment for pressing and monitoring fermentation, including high-quality stainless steel tanks. During this modernization, 39 qvevri amphorae, which were over 120 years old and dated back to the era of the Kingdom of Makashvili, were also restored.
On their 120 hectares of vineyards, situated in the renowned Kindzmarauli microzone, primarily native grape varieties are cultivated, though in recent years, some foreign grape varieties have also been introduced. The skilled winemakers at the winery harnessed the exceptional characteristics of the Kindzmarauli microzone and produced both traditional qvevri wines and highly acclaimed wines using modern European techniques, some of which even received international recognition.
The foundation of Vaziani’s quality wines is built upon the careful selection of grapes, manual harvesting with quality control, and innovative winemaking methods.
