Skaramuča Dingač 2017

Skaramuča Dingač is the leading fortified wine of Vina Skaramuča. It is actually the wine that has made this Croatian winery famous. “Dingač” is not the name of the grapes used here, but the name of the region. Plavac Mali grapes are used for this wine. This grape variety is the ancient sister of the California Zinfandel or the Italian Primitivo. The production of Skaramuča Dingač begins with the manual harvesting of the grapes. The grapes are carefully selected and picked, involving 40 to 50 people to collect only eight tons of grapes per day. After the harvest, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, followed by 12 months of aging in oak barrels. A Dingač wine can only be called Dingač if the alcohol percentage of the wine is between 14 and 17 percent. The alcohol percentage in this wine is 15%.

Description

More about Dingač area

As mentioned earlier, Dingač is a wine region – the first protected region in Croatia since 1961. In the meantime a number of protected regions have been added where Plavac Mali grape variety grows. The grapes grow here in a sun-drenched area and have a poor rocky soil as soil. This means that the vines have to work very hard to create some juice. The vines only yield up to one kilogram of grapes per plant. As a result, only one bottle of wine can be made from one vine. Given the conditions in the vineyards, where the vines grow on the sloping slopes, harvesting is done manually and not by machine.
