Humberto Cardoso was a bon vivant. He soon handed over the management of the vineyards and winery entirely to his sons, Rui and Álvaro Cardoso. He was always full of ideas and saw opportunities everywhere to start something new, never lasted long in one place and left to realize another passion of his. He went on a world tour with his wife. His son Álvaro eventually took charge, running the family business from a very young age. With almost 1235 hectares of vineyards and a production of more than 4 million liters of wine per year, an extraordinary amount at the time, they were the largest wine producers in Europe at the time.
