The Masahiro Distillery, founded in 1883 by Shobun Higa, is one of the oldest and most respected distilleries in Okinawa. With roots in the royal court of the Ryukyu Kingdom, where Shobun’s father, Shozoku Higa, served as head chef, the distillery was among the first to be granted permission to produce awamori, the traditional Okinawan spirit. This rich family tradition of craftsmanship and passion for high-quality gastronomy remains at the heart of Masahiro’s philosophy to this day: to create only the finest spirits. By combining tradition with modern innovation, Masahiro became the first distillery in Okinawa to earn ISO 9001 certification for quality management. In 2018, the eighth-generation heir, Masayasu Higa, successfully launched the award-winning Okinawa Gin, marking the first step toward international recognition as a producer of premium artisanal spirits, now including their exclusive Masahiro Pure Malt Whisky.
