About the makers
Step back in time to the mid-19th century, where the roots of the legendary winery “Maran” run deep. Aryutyun, the visionary son of Sarkis and Maran, breathed life into a lush vineyard in his birthplace of Artabuynk. As a tribute to his mother, this vineyard was named “Maran,” laying the foundation for what is now known as the flourishing Maranents family and the renowned “Maran” winery. The history of “Maran” touches the essence of Armenian wine traditions, with roots dating back to 1991 when the winery officially opened its doors. Today, “Maran” proudly stands as one of the leading wine producers in the historic Vayots Dzor region, the beating heart of the Armenian wine industry.
Cultivating over 15 expansive hectares with passion and craftsmanship, “Maran” grows the grapes that form the soul of their wines. In 1996, the winery sought innovation by collaborating with French partners. This bold partnership paved the way for an innovative program seamlessly integrating ancient Armenian winemaking traditions with advanced French winemaking technology. The fruits of this collaboration are refined wines that enjoy global recognition, with numerous awards at prestigious wine competitions. But “Maran” went beyond wines; in 2002, the winery expanded its repertoire by diversifying into the production of pomegranate wine. And if that wasn’t enough, it also introduced the fruity vodka called “Bark,” available in tempting flavors such as hawthorn, apricot, and dogwood.
