Koncho Mtsvivani Kakhuri Qvevri 2018
In the vast region of Kakheti, the beating heart of Georgian winemaking, a wine is created that reflects the rich heritage and unique soil of this legendary area: the Koncho Mtsvivani Kakhuri Qvevri. Kakheti is globally renowned for its centuries-old winemaking tradition and the ideal climate for grape growing, where local grape varieties thrive. This wine is made from the Kakhuri Mtsvane, an indigenous grape variety that originates in eastern Georgia and is known for its refreshing and aromatic character. The grapes for this wine are carefully selected and hand-picked in the last days of September, when they have reached full ripeness. The production process follows an ancient Kakhetian method, where the grapes, after pressing, are placed together with their skins and seeds in a Qvevri. This traditional underground clay vessel allows fermentation to slowly unfold deep within the earth. During the winter months, the wine remains in contact with the skins, developing its depth and complexity. This long maturation process usually lasts until the spring, when the wine shows its first signs of maturity. After this period, the wine is transferred to 400-liter oak barrels, where it continues to mature and further develop its harmonious flavors.
With an alcohol content of 13%, the Koncho Mtsvivani Kakhuri Qvevri offers a refined, complex tasting experience. This wine is a true tribute to the timeless traditions of Georgian winemaking and the unique qualities of the Kakheti region.
Taste character Koncho Mtsvivani Kakhuri Qvevri
The Koncho Mtsvivani Kakhuri Qvevri is a wine with a beautiful golden hue, reflecting its aging in the traditional Qvevri. The bouquet is delightfully refined, with aromas reminiscent of ripe pears, flowers like daisies, a hint of nuts, and subtle tea notes, harmoniously blending with a touch of vanilla. The taste is rich and balanced, with a full texture and a high level of ripe phenols, suggesting that this wine has the potential to further age in the bottle and develop even more complexity over time. Its impressive antioxidant content not only makes the wine delicious but also offers health benefits, including a protective effect for the heart and blood vessels. This wine is particularly well-suited to pair with Georgian cuisine, known for its rich and diverse flavors. Dishes with red meat and fatty cheeses are a perfect match for the deeper flavors of the Koncho Mtsvivani Kakhuri Qvevri. Traditional Georgian dishes like Khachapuri, Mtsvadi (grilled meat), and Satsivi (chicken with walnut sauce) are also ideal companions for this wine.
To get the most out of this wine, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 18°C. This way, the aromas and flavors are fully expressed, allowing for a complete and enjoyable wine experience.

In 2001, Koncho and Company LLC was founded by JSC Corporation Kindzmarauli with the aim of continuing the centuries-old Georgian wine tradition. The company’s roots are deeply embedded in the rich wine culture of Georgia, a tradition that has been passed down through generations in the Konchoshvili family. The name “Koncho” comes from the ancient Georgian word for “cross” and is derived from the family name, which traces back to the time of Kakhaber Konchoshvili, the royal winemaker for King Teimuraz II of Kakheti. In 1737, Kakhaber established a wine cellar where the first traditional Kakhetian wines and chacha were produced. This cellar operated until the end of the 20th century, first in the village of Sabue and later in Kvareli.
With the founding of Koncho and Company LLC, this rich tradition was revitalized. The company strives to preserve authentic Georgian viticulture and offer high-quality wines to wine enthusiasts around the world. The company’s vineyards are located in the renowned microzones of Kindzmarauli and Kvareli, areas famous for their fertile soil, once irrigated by the Duruji River. The unique terroir, with black slate and a rich concentration of carbonates at a depth of 8-10 meters, imparts a distinctive flavor to the wines of Koncho and Company, setting them apart from other Georgian wines.
