Koncho Kisi Qvevri 2018

Koncho Kisi Qvevri is an exceptional wine that brings the ancient winemaking tradition of Georgia to life. Originally from the Kakheti region in the eastern part of the country, this wine is made from the Kisi grape, a white variety known for its firm structure, fresh acidity, and rich aromatic complexity. What makes Koncho Kisi Qvevri special is the traditional winemaking method, which involves the use of a qvevri – a large clay pot buried in the ground to regulate the temperature during the fermentation process. The grapes are gently crushed and undergo spontaneous fermentation in the qvevri, without the addition of yeast or artificial temperature control. This results in a wine that is pure and authentic, with a flavor entirely driven by nature. After the initial fermentation, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and then ages for 4 to 5 months in the qvevri. It is then aged for 9 to 12 months in used large oak barrels, which adds an extra layer of complexity and a beautiful balance between fruity flavors and woody notes. With an alcohol content of 13.5%, the wine achieves a perfect harmony between its rich flavors and refreshing acidity.

Koncho Kisi Qvevri is a perfect reflection of the Georgian winemaking tradition and offers an authentic tasting experience that captures the essence of the Kakheti region in every sip.

Flavor character Koncho Kisi Qvevri

Koncho Kisi Qvevri presents itself with a refined amber hue, a hallmark of wines fermented in qvevri according to ancient tradition. The aroma is rich and inviting, with pronounced notes of candied fruit, dried apricots, and a hint of tropical accents. Upon tasting, the wine reveals a soft and rounded texture, where dried tropical fruits, orange peel, melon, ripe apples, and a hint of hazelnut blend seamlessly. The tannins are subtle and smooth, making the wine easy and pleasant to drink.

Thanks to its versatility, Koncho Kisi Qvevri pairs well with a wide range of dishes. It is an excellent companion to grilled meats such as lamb or chicken, where the rich flavors beautifully harmonize with the depth of the wine. Creamy cheeses like brie or goat cheese complement the silky texture of the wine wonderfully. Fish dishes, such as grilled salmon or cod, are perfectly matched with the wine’s refreshing acidity, which enhances the delicate flavors of the fish. The wine is also a great choice for Eastern dishes, such as grilled vegetables or dishes with subtle spice combinations, which bring out the wine’s complex flavors. To fully appreciate its aroma and taste, we recommend serving Koncho Kisi Qvevri at a temperature of 10–12°C.

Description

Winery

With a deep-rooted connection to the ancient Georgian wine tradition, Koncho and Company LLC was founded on September 18, 2001, by JSC Corporation Kindzmarauli. From the outset, the company has focused on producing and selling wines of exceptional quality. The name “Koncho” comes from the ancient Georgian word for “cross” and is also the foundation of the family name Konchoshvili. This family has a long history in winemaking, dating back to 1737, when Kakhaber Konchoshvili, the court winemaker of King Teimuraz II of Kakheti, established his wine cellar. Here, traditional wines from Kakheti and the famous Georgian brandy, chacha, were produced. The cellar remained active until the end of the 20th century, initially located in the village of Sabue and later in Kvareli.

The founding of Koncho and Company LLC was a natural continuation of this historical tradition, with the aim of preserving the authentic Georgian wine culture and providing the world with wines of the highest quality. The company manages some of the most prestigious vineyards in the classic wine regions of Kindzmarauli and Kvareli, located on fertile land where the Duruji River once flowed. The presence of black slate and a high concentration of carbonates at a depth of 8-10 meters underground contributes to the distinctive taste and unique character of the wines, which stand out within Georgian wine production.
