Karas Single Vineyard Areni 2021
Introducing Karas Single Vineyard Areni, a masterpiece of winemaking deeply rooted in the rich history of Armenia. This red wine emerges from vineyards discreetly nestled at the foot of the majestic Mount Ararat, amidst the enchanting Armavir region of Armenia. Here, where winemaking is an age-old tradition, this ancient terroir shines with its volcanic soil, one of the most unique and prized assets for creating annual harvests in the cradle of wine production. Karas Single Vineyard Areni is crafted from the Areni grape, an indigenous variety thriving in Armenian soil. Subsequently, the wine aged for approximately 8 months in amphorae, also known as “Karas.”
Here, an artisanal approach to winemaking is united with the rich tradition of the region, resulting in a wine distinguished by unparalleled personality and depth. This exquisite wine boasts an alcohol percentage of 13%. Karas Single Vineyard Areni is more than just a wine; it encapsulates a piece of history in a bottle. Description
Vineyard
Tierras de Armenia, founded in 2003, is today one of the most prominent and modern wineries in Armenia. The vineyard is situated between the Ararat and Aragats Mountains in the Armavir district, which, due to its excellent climatic conditions, has been a significant center for agricultural development in the Southern Caucasus since ancient times. The company’s vineyards cover more than 400 hectares and are located at an altitude of 1000-1200 meters above sea level. Here, both native and international grape varieties are cultivated, including white grapes such as chardonnay, viognier, kangun, and muscat, and red grapes such as malbec, tannat, syrah, merlot, and others. At Tierras de Armenia, they strive to harness the latest advancements in winemaking. That’s why they’ve appointed the talented Argentine winemaker Gabriel Rocha as their head oenologist and the world-renowned consultant winemaker Michel Rolland as their oenological advisor. Gabriel Rocha describes his work as follows: “I aim to ensure that every wine represents its origin, soil, climate, people… so that it stands out from the rest. I believe this is one of the most important characteristics of this beverage. Here, in Armenia, I see a lot of potential! We just need the courage to break through the stereotypes.”
