About Karas Winery
In the heart of Armenia, beneath the everlasting gaze of Mount Ararat, Karas Wines flourishes as an ode to sustainability, family, tradition, and expertise. The mission of this exceptional winery is clear: to produce world-class wines directly from their own vineyards in Armavir, Armenia. The Armenian word “Karas,” meaning ‘amphora,’ carries the rich legacy of 6,000 years of winemaking, symbolizing the sacred clay vessel cherished for centuries. The winemakers at Karas draw inspiration from Armenia’s ancient oenological culture and the use of the amphora, driving them to shape the future of the birthplace of wine. Their ambition extends beyond local recognition; they aspire to conquer the title of producer of the world’s most coveted wines.
The Eurnekian family, descendants of the Armenian diaspora to Argentina, have embarked on a journey of rediscovery. Karas Wines is the result of a family seeking to replant its roots in the original homeland, revive traditions, and simultaneously contribute to sustainable ecosystems and biodiversity. With a wealth of experience and knowledge, Eduardo Eurnekian and Juliana Del Aguila Eurnekian – uncle and niece – lead the premium vineyard property, Bodega Del Fin Del Mundo, in Neuquén, Argentina. For over a decade, they have crafted wines together in Patagonia, a region renowned for its authentic wines. Together, they founded Karas in Armavir, where the volcanic terroir imparts a unique character to the wines. Winemaker and sommelier Juliana, who ventured into winemaking at an early age, had the privilege of working under the mentorship of one of the world’s greatest, Michel Rolland. This unique project embodies innovation and environmental consciousness, with the conviction that Karas will build bridges between Armenia and the rest of the world.
