French wine

France, the wine country par excellence. Anyone who thinks about the country will undoubtedly praise the French wines. Not surprising, of course, because the world’s most acclaimed wines often come from France. If it is not French wine, it is the grape variety that originated in the vicinity of Bordeaux, the Rhône region or in Provence. Drinkrituals has also included a varying range of French Wines in the range. Discover our selection and let us inform you about our various French wines. Cheers, or as they say in France: santé!

Buy French wine

French wines are among the best known and best in the world and are consumed by both rich and poor. Whether you enjoy a cold chardonnay on the terrace in the summer or prefer a nice full pinot noir with a hearty meal in the winter: you are always in the right place with the diverse collection of French wines.

Well-known grape varieties for French wine

Those looking for grape varieties in general almost always end up with varieties that are also used for French wines. These grape varieties are therefore often standard names for a “normal glass of wine”, but are also ingredients for specialty wines from France. An overview:

  • Chardonnay: the standard grape for “white wine”. Chardonnay wine is widespread. Not surprising, because the grape holds up well in all kinds of climates. Burgundy is the Chardonnay region par excellence.
  • Merlot: if you often drink red wine, the Merlot is often the basis. With little acidity and a fine skin, it makes it an accessible grape variety for many merlot wines. Also used as a blend (also called assembly).
  • Pinot Noir: blue grape from the Burgundy region that is unique to France. Delivers beautiful, full-bodied wines.

More: Of course there are many more French grape varieties, including the Caubernet Sauvignon or Sauvignon Blanc (white), Syrah (blue) and Cabernet (blue).

Quality wine

The fact that a wine should not be made in France just like that, proves the quality indication that goes with it. In the country, a whole system of names and special abbreviations has been drawn up to guarantee the quality of a wine. In fact, a wine can often only really call itself a wine from France if they have a special wine label. An example is the IGP quality mark, Indication Géographique Protégée, or the AOC quality mark (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée). When one of these labels can be found on a bottle label, you know you’re in the right place.
