Sociedade Agrícola de Pias was founded in 1973 by José Veiga Margaça, a merchant from Torres Vedras who found in this small parish the opportunity to settle and produce high quality original wines. His passion for the land and his deep knowledge and respect for the Alentejo have enabled him to spend decades exploring new forms of production and creating wines that honor Pias’ unique terroir. On his estates, located between Serpa and Moura, in the extreme east of the Alentejo, with a total of 800 hectares, he began an intensive process of restructuring the vineyards, organizing plots and by grape variety, renovating the cellar that houses the offered the best of technology and surrounded itself with people of the land, generating employment and wealth. For decades, it strengthened its portfolio, won awards and created all distribution logistics, making Sociedade Agrícola de Pias an autonomous company and several of its wines became references on the Portuguese market.
The legacy of José Veiga Margaça remains in the hands of the family today, and it is his children and grandchildren who keep alive the tradition of Pias and honor the values that underpin the project since its creation, always with a contemporary vision and close to the modern consumer.
