Château Ksara Reserve du Couvent 2020

Château Ksara Réserve du Couvent is one of Lebanon’s best-selling red wines, renowned for its rich history and exceptional quality. This wine comes from the famous Bekaa Valley, the heart of Lebanese winemaking, where the unique terroir and Mediterranean climate produce grapes of the highest quality. The wine celebrates the traditional Jesuit cellar, combining historical craftsmanship with modern winemaking techniques.

Réserve du Couvent is a carefully crafted blend of Syrah, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are hand-harvested and destemmed before fermentation, preserving the wine’s pure fruit character. The Cabernet Sauvignon is aged for six months in oak barrels, contributing to the wine’s complexity, roundness, and smooth texture. The result is a meticulously balanced red wine with depth and elegance.

This red wine has an average alcohol content of around 13.5%, making it both powerful and refined.

Description

Winery

Château Ksara is the oldest and largest winery in Lebanon, founded in 1857 by the Jesuits. It was not until 1972 that the monks sold the winery, after which it underwent extensive modernization. Today, Château Ksara produces contemporary wines, mainly from French grape varieties, that are appreciated worldwide.

The vineyards of Château Ksara are located in the fertile Bekaa Valley, on a soil composed of limestone, red clay, and slate. The name refers to a fortress dating back to the time of the Crusaders. From the very beginning, the Jesuits planted Cinsault, which remains one of the winery’s most important grape varieties to this day. The monks not only maintained excellent vineyards, but they also accidentally discovered a two-kilometer-long Roman cellar beneath the château, which they transformed into an impressive wine cellar.

After the sale in 1972, four Lebanese families took over and brought the winery into a new era. Today, Château Ksara’s vineyards cover approximately 350 hectares, situated in a dry and sunny climate with cooling winds from the Mediterranean. Such an ideal combination of sun, soil, and climate makes it possible for Château Ksara to operate entirely without herbicides. The estate cultivates a wide range of internationally renowned grape varieties, bringing both tradition and modern winemaking to full expression.
