Château Ksara Carignan Old Vines 2020
The Château Ksara Carignan Old Vines is a remarkable wine from the Beqaa Valley in Lebanon, one of the oldest and most renowned wine regions in the Middle East. This wine is made from 100% Carignan grapes, a late-ripening and robust variety known for its deep color, body, and rich flavor profile. The grapes for this wine are hand-harvested, destemmed, and gently pressed to preserve their quality and aromas. Fermentation takes place with wild yeasts in historic concrete tanks built by the Jesuits, at a controlled temperature of 22°C. The wine undergoes 15 days of skin contact, giving it enhanced color and flavor. After fermentation, it matures for 12 to 14 months before being filtered and bottled. The alcohol content of this Carignan is around 13.5%, contributing to a harmonious balance of power and freshness.
The Château Ksara Carignan Old Vines is an authentic, characterful wine from Lebanon that beautifully showcases the heritage of the Carignan grape. It is perfect for lovers of full-bodied, fruity wines with a subtle spicy touch.

Description
Winery
The Jesuits, founders of Château Ksara, introduced the Carignan grape to Lebanon’s Beqaa Valley in 1857. This Spanish variety, which has gained worldwide recognition in the Southern Rhône, Languedoc, and California, has since played a central role in Lebanese wine culture and expresses itself uniquely thanks to the country’s distinctive terroir.
This wine is produced from 60-year-old vines located in the Western Beqaa Valley, where the continental climate and an altitude of 1,200 meters provide optimal ripening conditions. The vines are rooted in stony clay and limestone soils, contributing to the grape’s complexity. Carignan is a robust, slow-ripening variety that imparts to the wine a beautiful structure, fresh elegance, and lush, layered flavors.
