Chateau Kefraya Les Bretèches Red 2019

Chateau Kefraya Les Bretèches Red is a refined Lebanese wine from the picturesque West Bekaa Valley. The Cinsault grape, one of the core components of this blend, has been carefully cultivated in this fertile valley for over a century. In addition to Cinsault, the blend also includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Tempranillo, Carignan, and Garnacha (Grenache), forming the foundation of this wine.

After carefully destemming, the grapes are gently pressed and transferred to temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Here, they undergo alcoholic fermentation and maceration for 1 to 3 weeks, with temperatures carefully maintained between 23 and 26°C, tailored to the character of each grape variety. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation in concrete tanks, followed by 10 months of aging in tanks and an additional 12 months in the bottle, resulting in a harmonious structure. No oak is used during the production process, allowing the pure expression of the grapes to shine through.

With an alcohol content of 14%, Les Bretèches offers an elegant balance of power and finesse. Each new vintage is also adorned with a unique label designed by a talented young Lebanese artist, making every bottle a work of art in its own right.

Flavor character Chateau Kefraya Les Bretèches Red

Château Kefraya Les Bretèches Rouge has a deep red color with purple reflections. On the nose, it reveals ripe fruit notes of blackberries and cherries, complemented by fresh tamarind, a subtle earthy touch of mushrooms, and a hint of spice. On the palate, the wine is round, smooth, and juicy, with soft tannins and a balanced freshness that invites continued sipping. This is not a heavy, powerful wine, but rather a fresh, elegant red with great drinkability — typically Lebanese with a French signature. Les Bretèches Rouge pairs excellently with Lebanese mezze, grilled vegetables, lamb dishes, spiced chicken, or light stews. It also works beautifully as an aperitif or alongside a cheese and charcuterie platter.

Serve the wine at 16°C to fully appreciate its rich aromas and juicy structure.

Description

Winery

Located in the beautiful West Bekaa Valley, Château Kefraya has been proudly owned by the Bustros family for generations. The château, whose construction began in 1946, stands on an artificial hill once used by the Romans centuries ago to observe their troop movements. Founder and visionary Michel de Bustros undertook extensive work to establish vineyards on these magnificent slopes. The first vines were planted in 1951, and despite the challenges of the Lebanese Civil War (1975–1990), Château Kefraya began producing its own wines in 1979 — made entirely from grapes grown in its own vineyards and vinified in its own cellars.

In the early 1980s, the wines Les Coteaux de Kefraya 1982 and 1983 won their first international awards, after which Château Kefraya began exporting to France. In 1997, American wine critic Robert Parker rated Comte de M 1996 with a score of 91/100, calling it “an incredible achievement for Lebanon.” Today, Château Kefraya wines are available in more than 40 countries across five continents.
