Château Purcari 1827 Viorica – Muscat Ottonel 2024

The Purcari 1827 Viorica – Muscat Ottonel originates from the heart of Moldova, in the sunny and fertile Ștefan Vodă region. This area, steeped in a rich winemaking tradition dating back to the late 12th century, has been a key pillar of the local economy for centuries. The unique combination of a favorable climate, well-drained soils, and long hours of sunshine makes Ștefan Vodă ideally suited for the cultivation of high-quality grapes. Thanks to these exceptional terroirs, the vineyards of Château Purcari and the nearby Agon Zograf Monastery have produced high-quality wines over the centuries, where craftsmanship and tradition have always been at the forefront.

The Viorica – Muscat Ottonel is a refined blend of the aromatic Muscat Ottonel and the local Viorica grape. Muscat Ottonel is renowned for its elegant, floral aromas and subtle citrus notes, while Viorica gives the wine a fresh and lively structure. The grapes are carefully hand-harvested and undergo gentle pressing to fully preserve their delicate aromas. Vinification takes place under controlled temperatures, ensuring that the natural freshness and fruity character of the grapes are optimally expressed.

The result is a sophisticated white wine with an alcohol content of 13%, offering a perfect balance between lively freshness and a soft, harmonious body.

Winery

Château Purcari is the leading winery in Moldova. As one of the oldest wineries in the region, Château Purcari has been producing exceptional wines for centuries from grapes that thrive on ancient, fertile soils. Located in the southern part of Moldova, near the tri-border area where Moldova, Ukraine, and Transnistria meet, Château Purcari is blessed with a unique terroir. The winery draws on the rich tradition of the region, cultivating a variety of grape varieties that have been grown on these lands since the 12th century. The picturesque village of Purcari, from which Château Purcari takes its name, is home to both the winery and the vineyards of the Agon Zograf Monastery. This beautiful setting contributes to the extraordinary quality of its wines. In 1827, Château Purcari had the honor of becoming the first specialized winery in Bessarabia, thanks to recognition from Emperor Nicholas I of Russia. This prestigious status opened the doors to greatness, with wines later served to Tsar Nicholas II and King George V of England.

Under its current ownership, Château Purcari has invested in modern vinification techniques and devoted intensive care to its vineyards. The result is a range of outstanding wines that deserve recognition worldwide.
