The story of CATZ begins in 1789, when Heiman Cohen Catz established himself as a pharmacist in Pekela, Groningen. In his pharmacy, he produced alcoholic tinctures and medicinal elixirs—an artisanal practice that would later form the foundation of the renowned CATZ brand. His son, Bernard Catz, took the first step toward distillation, developing aromatic herbal bitters, liqueurs, and elixirs. Thus, a legacy of flavor, craftsmanship, and refinement was born—one that continues to resonate to this day in every bottle of CATZ Dry Gin. In 1857, the descendants of Heiman Cohen Catz founded the trading company “Firma Gebroeders CATZ,” which grew into CATZ International, one of the world’s largest traders of herbs and spices. At the same time, Salomon Catz carried on the tradition of high-quality herbal spirits under the name CATZ & Zoon van Pekela, renowned for iconic elixirs such as Red and Green Curaçao, once an indispensable part of Dutch jenever culture.
Today, CATZ Dry Gin embodies this centuries-old tradition. Each bottle represents a unique blend of historical expertise and modern distillation techniques, allowing enthusiasts to enjoy an authentic, refined gin with a story.
