Gašper Sulec 2023

Meet Gašper Sulec, a refined Slovenian white wine that reflects the essence of the Goriška Brda region. This famous wine-growing area is known for its steep slopes, terraced vineyards, and rich marl soil. The sub-Mediterranean climate, characterized by the influence of warm sea air and cool air currents from the Alps, creates a perfect balance between warmth and coolness—an essential element for growing aromatic, fresh grapes. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 80 to 200 meters above sea level, contributing to the complexity and minerality of the wine. Gašper Sulec is a carefully crafted blend of three grape varieties: 33% Chardonnay, 33% Rebula, and 33% Sauvignon Vert. This wine is produced with the utmost care and according to traditional methods. The grapes are hand-harvested, ensuring the quality of the crop. After harvest, the grapes undergo fermentation in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature of 14°C, preserving the fresh aromas and delicate flavors. The wine also matures entirely in stainless steel vats, highlighting its minerality and fresh acidity without being influenced by oak flavors.

With a refined alcohol content of 12.5%, Gašper Sulec offers an elegant, medium-bodied tasting experience. This wine is the perfect choice for the true wine lover seeking an authentic Slovenian experience, infused with character and craftsmanship.

Flavor character Gašper Sulec

The color of this wine is clear and light straw yellow, with a refined sheen that beautifully reflects the fresh, youthful essence of the wine. The Gašper Sulec reveals an aroma of remarkable depth and complexity. The Sauvignon Vert adds an elegant scent of green apple, lime, and a subtle spiciness, while the Chardonnay offers a lush undertone of ripe fruit and a soft, creamy texture. The Rebula lends the wine a mineral freshness, adding an extra layer of refinement to its aroma. On the palate, the Gašper Sulec is a sensation of liveliness and freshness, with a delicate balance between fruity and mineral flavors. The wine has a medium body and a silky, long-lasting finish. The acidity is perfectly balanced, giving the wine undeniable elegance and refreshing liveliness. Thanks to its fresh acidity and mineral finesse, this wine is exceptionally versatile and makes an ideal partner for a wide range of culinary delights. The Gašper Sulec pairs wonderfully with delicate fish dishes, refined meat dishes, vegetables, and salads, as well as the refined flavors of Asian cuisine. For the optimal tasting experience, we recommend serving the Gašper Sulec at a temperature of 8-10°C. This ensures that the fresh aromas and lively acidity are fully expressed, while maintaining the wine’s elegant structure.

Description

Producer

Gašper Čarman, the owner of Gasper Wines, is one of the most prominent wine experts in Slovenia. He won the title of Best Sommelier of Slovenia twice (2013 and 2015), achieved the prestigious WSET Level 4 diploma, and is currently in his second year of the renowned Master of Wine program. For him, learning is a continuous process; even after 14 years in the wine world, he remains fascinated by new discoveries. From a young age, Gašper was surrounded by wine and gastronomy. Growing up in the family business – the restaurant Danilo – gostilna & vinoteka in Reteče – he developed his passion for wine. In 2004, he took his first steps as an independent entrepreneur in wine sales. What started as a small garage business quickly grew into a successful online wine shop and a flourishing distribution network for both private and business clients.

In 2013, he launched his own wine brand: Gasper Wines. For Gašper, wine is about the experience in the glass, more than the story behind it. A first impression can lead to a long-lasting relationship with a wine or just a fleeting encounter. This idea was central to the creation of Gasper Wines. The wines are produced in collaboration with Klet Goriška Brda, one of the largest Slovenian wine cooperatives. Thanks to this partnership, the recognition of Gasper Wines continues to grow, both in Slovenia and internationally. Gasper Wines embody the character of the unique terroir of Goriška Brda and are designed with the wine lover in mind.
