Wine House
Georgia is considered the birthplace of wine, where the foundation was laid for the production of qvevri wines using traditional Georgian winemaking techniques. The production of classic Georgian qvevri wines at the Makashvili Winery has strong ties to the Makashvili noble family. The finest qvevri wines were crafted from grapes harvested on the estate of the Makashvili family. Honored guests visiting the Kakheti region were treated to these delightful Georgian wines. Today, the company founded by the descendants of this family is renowned for its qvevri wines that meet the strictest taste standards of experts and the refined palate of wine enthusiasts. This has led to numerous prestigious international awards for these wines.
The traditional method of qvevri winemaking, which has been in existence for 8,000 years, is still upheld. Vaziani Winery proudly represents this rich cultural and historical tradition. Makashvili Wine Cellar, belonging to Vaziani, has its origins in the Makashvili estate from the second half of the 15th century. In the wine cellar, there are qvevri vessels that are over 120 years old and were discovered during the winery’s restoration in 2012. Out of the approximately 200 qvevri vessels found, only 39 could be saved from damage. The wines are meticulously produced using the traditional qvevri method in these centuries-old qvevri vessels and are crafted in limited quantities. These wines have received recognition and appreciation worldwide.
