Chateau Ksara Le Prieure 2021

Château Ksara Le Prieuré is a refined red wine from the renowned Bekaa Valley in Lebanon, one of the most prestigious wine regions in the Middle East. This heritage blend combines traditional winemaking with modern techniques, resulting in a wine of exceptional finesse and elegance. The wine is carefully crafted from four distinctive grape varieties: Carignan, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, and Caladoc.

The grapes are hand-harvested, carefully selected, and de-stemmed. Each variety undergoes a specific vinification process, fully tailored to preserve and enhance its unique character. Cinsault undergoes a short maceration to retain its fresh aromas, while Caladoc and Mourvèdre are macerated longer to fully develop their rich aromas and spicy notes. Carignan undergoes extended skin contact to add extra structure and depth. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 14 to 18 months in concrete tanks, a traditional method that imparts unique minerality and authentic character.

The result is a harmonious red wine where finesse, power, and elegance converge. With an alcohol content of 13.5%, Château Ksara Le Prieuré offers a perfect balance of intensity and refinement, ideal for wine enthusiasts who appreciate a complex and nuanced experience.

Flavor character Château Ksara Le Prieuré

Château Ksara Le Prieuré presents itself with a brilliant ruby-red color and a refined, complex flavor profile. On both the nose and palate, notes of black and red fruits unfold, subtly intertwined with hints of spices, licorice, and garrigue — the aromatic Mediterranean herbs that give the wine its characteristic depth and elegance. This harmonious combination results in a rich, lingering finish and a perfectly balanced wine experience in every sip.

This versatile red wine pairs effortlessly with a wide range of dishes. It shines beautifully with aged cheeses and delicate salads, but is also an excellent companion to both hot and cold meat dishes. Additionally, it complements savory tarts and slow-cooked stews, where its spicy notes and rounded structure are fully expressed. Château Ksara Le Prieuré also harmonizes wonderfully with Mediterranean mezze and herb-infused dishes, making every meal a balanced and flavorful experience.

Serve the wine at an ideal temperature of 16–18°C. Château Ksara Le Prieuré is at its best within two years of the vintage, but with proper storage, it can retain its refined character for three to four years and continue to develop further.

Description

Winery

Château Ksara is the oldest and largest winery in Lebanon, founded in 1857 by the Jesuits. It was not until 1972 that the monks sold the estate, after which it underwent extensive modernization. Today, Château Ksara produces contemporary wines, mainly from French grape varieties, which are appreciated worldwide.

The vineyards of Château Ksara are located in the fertile Bekaa Valley, on a soil of limestone, red clay, and slate. The name refers to a fortress dating back to the time of the Crusaders. From the very beginning, the Jesuits planted Cinsault, which remains one of the estate’s key grape varieties to this day. The monks not only maintained the vineyards meticulously, but also accidentally discovered a two-kilometer-long Roman cellar beneath the château, which they transformed into an impressive wine cellar.

After the sale in 1972, four Lebanese families took over and ushered the winery into a new era. Today, Château Ksara’s vineyards cover approximately 350 hectares, situated in a dry and sunny climate with cooling winds from the Mediterranean. This ideal combination of sun, soil, and climate allows Château Ksara to operate completely herbicide-free. The estate cultivates a wide range of internationally renowned grape varieties, bringing both tradition and modern winemaking to full fruition.
