Drinkrituals was founded in 2016 out of a passion for exclusive wines from unknown wine countries made from indigenous grape varieties. Our focus is on the Caucasus. Armenia and Georgia in particular are virtually unknown in the Netherlands as a wine country. And we thought that had to change. But we also saw around us that Europeans have started to drink more and more ‘adventurous’ and look for wines with history and stories. Fortunately, the Georgian or Armenian wines are a great choice. Because for centuries, wines of high and above all delicious quality have been made in these countries. Our goal is therefore to introduce as many people as possible to these top wines. Whether you are a real wine fan or have a glass of wine, you will always find a wine to surprise at any kind of occasion!
From a hobby to work
Before we decided to start a webshop, we first did research with a number of vinologists. In addition, we attended a blind tasting with a club of wine enthusiasts where many wine connoisseurs and specialists were present. Armenian wine was also served here. These wines received a lot of attention among wine connoisseurs. And we were pleasantly surprised. It was an honor for us to hear great stories about Armenian wine given our Armenian heritage. So we decided to sell Armenian wine as a hobby, in addition to our work as a lawyer. The switch seemed more difficult than it ultimately was and we really liked it. Because we love a good glass of wine, good food and good conversations about history, culture and philosophy. And what could be better than drinking a full-bodied Armenian red wine or a fresh Georgian white wine?
Advice and information
We combine the sale of these beautiful wines with the correct knowledge of the origin, backgrounds and history of wine types and grape varieties. In addition, we strive to stay current as sellers and experts. For example, by coming up with interesting (and especially tasty!) Wine and food combinations or organizing tastings. In addition to wine, we also sell spirits, such as the famous Ararat Brandy. Definitely worth a try. What we also notice is that wine lovers even go a step further than just drinking a wine from an unknown wine country. They increasingly choose our organic and natural wines, amphora wines (from the Armenian or Georgian earthenware jugs “Karas” or “Qvevri”) and special orange wines.
